WHY IM RUNNING FOR CITY COUNCIL

ABOUT CANDIDATE

Nic Dunning

I still remember the first day I came to Lacey to visit a good friend that I was in the Washington National Guard with. I got confused with turning at the light where College St. and Pacific Ave. connect. I was swiftly pulled over by a Lacey Police Officer. I swore I would never return to Lacey Again. Turns out boy I was wrong. The Police Officer was very understanding and helped me find my way. Fast forward over 10 years and Lacey has pulled me into the community like nothing I’ve ever experienced. I started in Lacey as a part time employee at a local business while finishing my degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at the University of Washington, where I graduated in 2012 With Honors. I now own 2 successful small businesses in our community. Where I see 500-1000 residents every day and coach other small businesses on how to grow and survive in good times and bad.

The reason I want to serve you on our Lacey City Council is the same reason I joined the military and volunteered to go to both Iraq and Afghanistan. I didn't want to grow old having sat on the sidelines telling people my opinion without ever experiencing it for myself or fighting for my community. While in the Marine Corps and National Guard the two awards I received that made the biggest impact on my life were the Combat Action Ribbon and Volunteer Service Medal. I have the experience when it's time to fight as well as the drive to step in when it's time to help.

I'm not an ideological person. I think we are all a little exhausted from politicians fighting and somehow never getting anything done. I look forward to hearing other perspectives and value finding ways to work with people from different backgrounds and experiences. My only goal is to do what's best for our city. That means making smart economic growth decisions, giving every community member the ability and opportunity to provide for themselves and their family, and keeping our city streets safe with the resources needed to protect it.

I look forward to serving you and the rest of Lacey to do what's best for Lacey.
